When we talk about trees then flowers, fruits and leaves are the most colourful parts which we think about for any plant species.
But do you know, that there exists a tree which has a multicoloured trunk, that looks like a stunning natural art piece!

There are over 400 different species of eucalyptus.

Here, Eucalyptus deglupta is
the Eucalyptus specie which we are going to talk about.
Just imagine you are walking in a garden and suddenly you noticed a fine natural art piece on the bark of a tree.

•Eucalyptus deglupta is commonly known as Rainbow eucalyptus,Mindanao gum and Rainbow gum.

• David Lorence, Director of Science at the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Kalaheo, Hawaii, says that " It's like a botanical kaleidoscope."

• Rainbow Eucalyptus are fast-growing species and reach up to a height of 60-75 m and the trunk reaches about 240 cm in diameter.

• The tall trees characterised by multicoloured bark are found in Philippines, Indonesia, Hawaii and Papua New Guinea.

• These trees are believed to live up to 150 years and grow about 36 inches high, annually.

This tree is often planted in the botanical gardens and as ornamental trees in Texas, South California, Hawaii and Florida.

So, let's check out the reason behind the rainbow effect in the tree.

As the tree trunk sheds, first revealing a dark green colour which changes to purple, maroon, and blue colour with time.

The bark doesn't shed all at once, slowly with time different layers fall while others have begun ageing, which gives it a look of a colourful scratch painting.

• A lot of water, as well as full sunlight, are the essential requirements for the proper growth of Rainbow Eucalyptus trees.
The trees can not survive in heavy frost, as they are not frost-resistant.

• This tree is grown mainly for pulpwood in the Philippines used for making white papers.

• It is the only Eucalyptus species that usually lives in rainforests!

• Rainbow Eucalyptus is also the only eucalyptus which is native to the northern hemisphere.

• The trees produce white flowers with green leaves and

it has a high commercial value for its colourless fruits, which are known as gum nuts.

The glands present in leaves produce aromatic oils, having medicinal value and used in the treatment of asthma, nasal congestion, skin ulcers and arthritis.

However, the amount of oil produced by the rainbow eucalyptus is comparably less than the other eucalyptus species.
But that doesn't matter as this specie is mainly grown for its attractive look!
