Corpse flower

I think the most beautiful and attractive part of nature are flowers. Their beauty is the first thing which attracts us towards them, right? But do you know that there are few of them which don't fall in this category and are considered as ugliest flowers of the world?

So let's check out that which is the ugliest flower in the world?!

Corpse Flower is scientifically known as Amorphophallus titanum, which means ' Giant Misshapen Penis'. 


This name is quite because of the shape and size of the flower. It was voted by Britain's Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) as the most unattractive plant.

This is a rare plant native to rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia.
It's also one of the largest and rarest pungent-smelling flowers in the world.

 According to the Guinness Book of World records, the tallest corpse flower was 10 feet, 2.25 inches high.

 

When bloomed it smells like rotting meat! This odour has a good reason behind it. "It all comes down to science," said Tim Pollak, outdoor floriculturist at the Chicago Botanic Garden. "The smell, colour and even temperature of corpse flowers are meant to attract pollinators and help ensure the continuation of the species."
 
The corpse flower simply feeds on soil, air and water. The outer part of the flower is green and is dark red inside which also gives it a look of rotten meat.







The corpse flower does not have an annual blooming cycle.  It blooms only when sufficient energy is accumulated, spanning from a few years to more than a decade, after bloomed it has been known to remain open for 24 to 48 hours.
