Golden Retriever is the eighth most popular family dog breed in the U.K, the fifth most popular breed in Australia and Brazil and the third most popular in Canada and the United States.

'Golden' refers to their coat which varies from blonde, yellow or golden colour.
However, 'retriever' refers to the ability of the dog to retrieve the shot game undamaged because of the soft mouth.

The kind, friendly and confident nature is the distinctive attribute of the Golden Retrievers. 
However, their gentle and trusting feature makes them a poor watchdog.



The lovely breed is generally considered a calm, loyal and intelligent dog breed. All these features contribute to the consideration of Golden Retrievers as popular disability assistant dogs.

Golden Retrievers are easy to train and obedient towards their masters.
The well-known breed is also trained as a detection dog, search or rescue dog as well as a hunting dog. 
Their natural love for water also makes them water rescue or lifesaving dog breed.

Golden Retrievers are compatible with other dog breeds or cats and with the kids as well which is another reason for being the most popular family dog in the U.S.
 

Their muscular body, great endurance and sport love makes them a natural athlete and are good at dock jumping, obedience and agility rings, flyball and field trials.

The three different varieties are American Golden Retrievers, Canadian Golden Retrievers and British Golden Retrievers. All of them can be prone to the same health problems such as Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Cancer, Cataracts, Heart disease, Epilepsy and Skin allergies.

The dog requires regular grooming and daily exercise or a walk with its owners.

They just love to eat, so it should be kept in mind that they are properly fed during mealtimes as overeating may cause health issues.
