Bialbero di Casorzo - double tree!!

Bialbero di Casorzo

Bialbero di Casorzo is an unusual tree that is situated in the town of Grana, Italy, on the hills of Monferrato between Asti and Casale Monferrato.
It is also called as doubletree by the people.
So, let's find out the reason, why it is called so?

It's seen many times that the same tree specie grows on another tree but, here, in this case, it's a cherry tree grown on a mulberry tree.
This amazing and unique tree combination makes it a tourist attraction in Italy!

The cause of this wonder is however not yet known but it's estimated that probably a flying bird might have dropped a cherry seed on the top of the mulberry tree.
The seed might have grown roots and reached to the soil by passing through the hollow trunk of the mulberry.

The people say that the mulberry tree is here from about 100 years but the cherry tree is known to be around 25 years old.

The cherry tree is on the top of the mulberry, however, it's not dependent on the host for its nourishment and uses it just for support. These kinds of plants (here, cherry) are known as epiphytic plants

Spring is the best time for observing the gap between both trees as the cherry tree gets covered with admiring white blossoms while the mulberry tree remains bare.
It looks spectacular!
